The Neuro-Learning and Language Network (NLLN) is a community of scholars which aims to empower individuals of all ages by expanding their knowledge of brain-based learning strategies, and connect adults to their own inherent strengths for learning.

Co-created by Dr. Ana Lia Oliva and Dr. Christopher Merideth, The NLLN envisions a future in which all students, regardless of their developmental background, can thrive in truly inclusive learning environments.

The NLLN provides a platform for adults to engage in research and collaboration in order to promote access to equitable, brain-based learning practices. Our understanding of human learning and thinking is grounded within the Neuro-Semantic Language Learning Theory (Arwood, 2011), and anchored using a triangulation of academic literature stemming from the fields of neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and language (Arwood’s Neuro-Education Model, 2017). In addition, the NLLN expands this work further by incorporating additional academic scholarship related to the intersection of culturally responsive teaching and equitable school practices.

The NLLN aims to promote collaboration between a consortium of scholars, educators, specialists, students, parents, and community partners. This integrated network provides accessible professional support and will continue to contribute to new discoveries and advancement in understanding of brain-based learning.

The Neuro-Learning Community

The Neuro-Learning Community serves as a meeting ground where folks come together to share ideas related to the pursuit of brain-based, equitable teaching practices. Led by Drs. Ana Lia Oliva and Christopher Merideth, the Neuro-Learning Community offers a safe and inclusive space for adults to learn about who they are, and how they can promote efforts of social justice within education. The Neuro-Learning Community currently meets in-person once each quarter in Portland, Oregon. All are welcome to join. Plans for the near future involve expanding these meeting opportunities into digital spaces in order to include interested individuals from any geographical area.

The following infographic introduces the core principles that guide the work of the Neuro-Learning Community:
