Event-Based Pictures I

$100.00

The event-based pictures contained in this original set have been designed by Dr. Arwood to meet the needs of educators and language clinicians who desire to help children acquire greater understanding of social situations and develop the thinking behind basic semantic relationships. This set of 50 colorful pictures each have three suggested common themes printed on the back for use with children who experience a variety of learning and language challenges. Each picture shows a person (agent) doing something (action) with an item (object) in a clearly-defined location (environment). These event-based pictures are semantically appropriate for children who are acquiring early language skills in order to develop the child’s basic semantic relationships consistent with Neuro-Education theory and application.

The educational clinician can use these pictures one-on-one with a child or in whole-group settings to help children acquire the building blocks of all social situations: Who is in the picture? Whatmight they be doing? Whereare they? When might this event be happening? And Whymight these people be acting they way they are? By asking open-ended questions and allowing children to use their spontaneous language to describe these events, educators can both assess students’ functional language proficiencies, and provide real-time intervention that considers the semantic, pragmatic, and semiotic aspects of language. These event-based pictures have been used by countless educators, parents, speech-language pathologists and more over multiple decades to successfully help children ‘see’ the linguistic nuances that guide a variety of social situations.
